The hydraulic ram is a cyclic pump that takes the kinetic energy of a fluid, to convert part of it into potential energy, thus it can raise a part of the water from a source, such as a stream or a ditch, to a higher height. This device does not require any external energy sources.
The main application is the irrigation of crops in remote areas, where there are not power supply facilities, and hence the hydraulic ram can be a low cost versatile solution.
Here is a video that shows the operation of the Armfield hydraulic ram F1-24, an equipment that works coupled to the F1-10 hydraulic bench and that allows to obtain the flow/pressure ratio and to determine the effectiveness of the hydraulic ram.
